Moodlemoot 2011 in London

After spending quite a few years working with Moodle I decided it was time to attend a conference and meet some of the other moodle-ers. Fortunately for me this years Moot was in Senate House, University of London… roughly 100m from my office!

The conference went on for two days, although I am not sure if it was a conference or a workshop as it seemed comparatively light in comparison to other academic elearning conferences, or indeed Drupalcon. On the upside there were a ton of ‘pumped’ Moodle enthusiasts to talk to and each of the keynotes inspired just a little bit more.

If you wondered what a room full of edu-nerds looks like, have a peek:

Perhaps the most interesting of all the presentations was from Tim Hunt, at this point I knew I was sat in front of a guy that really knew his tech and his elearning. Tim explained the pathways for the quiz and did it really well. In addition there were some very involved elearning admins from various colleges across the UK who were using Moodle on a huge scale and with quite a small team, doing some interesting work in tutor engagement.

The Moodle Moots were definitely a good spend of 2 days if your office is in London and you want to get onboard, but I do wonder how Moodle can gain a bigger sense of community, and I also wonder why more pedagogy and/or community engagement and/or open source themes didnt emerge.
